NEW | Select this command to create a new, empty translation memory. Alternatively: |
NEW (FROM SELECTION) | If you have selected one or more lines with translation units in the open translation memory, you can use this command to create a new translation memory based on the selected selection. |
OPEN.. | Select this command to open a translation memory. In the "Open" dialog box that appears, you can select the desired translation memory from the list of available translation memories and open it by clicking the "Open" button or by double-clicking. Alternatively: |
SAVE | Select this command to save the currently open translation memory. This overwrites the translation memory previously saved under this name. Alternatively: |
SAVE AS.. | Select this command to save the currently open translation memory under a new name. In the "Save" dialog box that appears, enter the desired name in the "Name" input field and then select the "Save" button. This overwrites the translation memory previously saved under this name. |
DELETE.. | Select this command to delete a translation memory. The currently open translation memory is selected in the "Delete" dialog box that appears. You can also select a different translation memory here. To finally delete, select the "DELETE" button and confirm the security prompt that appears with the "Yes" button. The supplied system translation memory cannot be deleted. |
IMPORT.. | Select this command to import a translation memory. Please read the section Import translation memories. |
EXPORT.. | Select this command to export the currently open translation memory. Please read the section Export translation memories. |
CLOSE | Select this command to close the "Edit translation memories" dialog box. If you have made unsaved changes, a corresponding confirmation prompt appears. |
TRANSLATION MEMORY menu | |
Menu command | Description |
PRIORITIZE TRANSLATION MEMORIES | Select this command to prioritize the existing translation memories in the "Prioritize translation memories" dialog box that appears. Please read the section Prioritize translation memories. |
ADD REPORT.. | Select this command to add one or more reports to the translation memory via the familiar "Open template" dialog box. |
ADD/REMOVE OBJECTS TO BE TRANSLATED.. | Select this command to add objects to be translated to the translation memory. Please read the section Add/remove objects to be translated. |
PERFORM EXTRACTION AGAIN | Select this command to extract the translation memory again. The added objects (reports) are searched for new segments. New segments found are added to the translation memory. Segments removed in the report are not removed from the translation memory and manual unsaved changes in the translation memory are also retained. |
TRANSLATE AUTOMATICALLY.. | Select this command to translate the translation units automatically. You can make the following settings in the "Translate automatically" dialog box that appears:
You can combine these two setting options as you wish, e.g. search in all TMs depending on the context. Start the automatic translation process with the "OK" button. |
CHANGE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE | Select this command to change the original language of the translation memory. In the "Change original language" dialog box that appears, select the new original language of the translation units in the "From" selection list and the new target language in the "To" selection list. The "In both language directions" checkbox is activated by default and also converts individually converted translation units accordingly so that they are "reversed" even after the original language has been converted. |
SEGMENTCHANGE STATUS.. | Select this command to quickly change all translation units with the same status to a different one. In the "Change segment status" dialog box that appears, select the status to be changed at the top and the desired new status at the bottom. Confirm the change with the "OK" button. |
COMPACT | Select this command to search the translation memory for translation units that can be merged. For example, if a German term is translated into English in one translation unit and into French in another, the two are combined. Compacting also takes place at the end of each extraction. |
SHOW ONLY ACTIVE ORIGINAL LANGUAGES | With this setting, which is activated by default and usually makes sense, original languages that are not currently in use are hidden. Deactivate this setting when manually creating a TM, for example, in order to be able to initially select original languages. |
ALLOW ORIGINAL/EDIT DETAILS | By default, it is not possible to edit the column with the segments in the original language. Select this command to cancel this backup. |

Menu command | Description |
ADD LANGUAGES TO TM.. | Select this command to add (previously defined) languages to the currently open translation memory. In the "Select languages" dialog box that appears, select the desired language(s) and then click on the "OK" button or double-click on the desired language. A new column is created for each language. |
REMOVE LANGUAGES FROM TM.. | Select this command to remove languages from the currently open translation memory. In the "Select languages" dialog box that appears, select the language(s) to be removed and then click the "OK" button. |
DEFINE LANGUAGES | Select this command to create new languages. Please read the section Define languages. |

SHOW HELP | Select this command to open the context-sensitive online help on the topic of "Multilingualism" in the Help Center. Alternative: Press the <F1> key when the "Edit translation memories" dialog box is open. |
