To compare a security with the market as a whole, it is essential to look at an index or a security from the same sector in addition to the price performance of the security. This is the only way to determine whether a security is outperforming the market or whether there is potential to catch up.
Your Infront Portfolio Manager can display several comparative values for a security at the same time. There are many possible combinations. Examples would be Siemens, Elektroindex and DAX or IBM, Dow Jones and the dollar.
To do this, open a chart.
Click on the "Search comparison value" icon or select the COMPARE VALUE SEARCH command on the "Chart" tab. The "Object search" dialog box appears.
Enter the name of the comparison value or a search word and start the search by clicking on the "Search" button. If necessary, read the chapter Search field and object search.
Select the security you are looking for in the selection list and confirm with "OK".
The price performance of the benchmark is shown in the current chart. By default, the comparison date is the first date on the timeline.
Would you like to change the color of the comparison value? Right-click on the price history and select the command TIME SERIES... from the context menu. More on this in the section Edit time series.
If you drag and drop a security into the open chart, this time series is automatically defined as the comparison time series.
You can display further comparative values in the same way. The same editing options as described above apply to all comparative values.
The names of the comparative values are added to the legend. Comparison series are indicated by a (V) in the legend, the basic time series by an asterisk "*". If no legend is displayed in the current chart window, select the LEGEND command on the "Chart" tab. You can also hide these symbols in the "Legends in chart" dialog box by deactivating the "Status symbols" checkbox.
If a comparative value is not displayed in the chart, no comparative value has yet been defined for this base time series. You can do this using the command TIME SERIES FOR COMPARATIVE VALUES in the menu of the "Edit time series" icon.
